 Although the Wagon R is more expensive and the Swift/Baleno is sportier, consumers are shifting away from the Alto due to changing tastes.

In New Delhi: The most popular models are premium hatchbacks and SUVs, with models like the Swift and Baleno outselling the Alto. This raises the question of whether Indian car consumers are more interested in purchasing high-end hatchbacks or compact SUVs rather than entry-level vehicles.

Although the Wagon R is more expensive and the Swift/Baleno is sportier, consumers are shifting away from the Alto due to changing tastes. Car buyers now believe that it is better to spend more money than on an entry-level vehicle due to shifting consumer preferences and a need for additional options.

With the launch of the new generation model on August 18, Maruti hopes to upgrade the Alto brand and give it a more luxurious feel. To appeal to buyers who are concerned with features, the new Alto is built on a new chassis and engine. Additionally, it is anticipated that it will be bigger and more similar to the Celerio in terms of packaging or design.

The engine, a 1.0l Dualjet motor, will come standard with an AMT automatic and a 5-speed manual transmission. The new Alto would be more durable, guarantee more safety thanks to the new platform, and even come with options like a touchscreen or electronically adjustable mirrors.

Instead of concentrating solely on pricing, Alto has evolved from being a basic car and now aspires to compete as an affordable little car. It appears that the entry-level tiny automobile must change due to technology and increasing pollution regulations.
