2023 Tata Safari Petrol To Rival Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N: The new Mahindra Scorpio N has increased the rivalry in the three-row SUV segment. It is to be launched on June 27, after which many other carmakers can update their SUVs of this segment or bring new SUVs in the near future. In this segment, Tata Motors launched the new three-row SUV Safari early last year. But, then the company had introduced it only in diesel, due to which it must have had a negative impact on its sales somewhere as almost all its rivals are offering petrol engines. However, now Tata Motors is working on it.

Why is the Tata Safari Petrol variant necessary?

Other SUVs in the market also come with Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus petrol engine options. In such a situation, now Tata Safari is also going to be launched with petrol engine. The domestic car maker has been working on developing its own petrol power plant for some time now. The test mules of the petrol-powered Tata Safari have been spotted several times in the past as well. Another test prototype of Safari with an emission test kit has been spotted during testing near Khalapur toll plaza on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Launching this will also make it a bit easier for Tata Safari to take on the new Mahindra Scorpio N.

Engine and Features

According to some reports, the petrol variant of the Safari could be equipped with a new in-house developed 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. It can generate 150 Bhp power and 250 Nm peak torque. It can be given a 6-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed automatic transmission. The Safari petrol powertrain is also expected to be offered on the 5-seater Harrier at a later stage. However, the rest of the features in both can remain almost the same. They are not likely to change much.
